God’s Prophecies for the Birth of Christ

The circumstances which led up to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem are so extraordinary that it would be unrealistic to predict Jesus’ birth without Devine inspiration. It is totally unbelievable that it could happen this way for many predictions seem to contradict one another. Bethlehem is the birthplace and He is to be a descendant of David. But then David had no descendants here or even in towns close by. Christ was to be called out of Egypt. To be called a Nazarene. Christ is to have all these different names, Emmanuel, Jesus, Prince of Peace, Wonderful, etc. To a commoner it sounds as if Emmanuel is to be born in three different places, Bethlehem, Egypt, and Nazareth. Have ten or twelve names.

It has been said that there are over 300+ prophecies concerning the first coming of Christ that have been literally fulfilled. Why did God use so many prophecies? Because God did not want Israel to miss Jesus. Remember that fulfilled prophecies are the sure proof that the Bible is exactly what it says that it is, God’s word.

Out of David’s lineage, the Lord has said that David lineage will rule forever on David’s throne, but in Jer. 22:28-30, speaking about one of David’s descendants, Jeconiah, “Thus saith the Lord. . .for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.” Compare Jer. 23:5.

Gen 3:15

, (1400 B.C.)“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; he shall bruise thy head, and thou shall bruise his heel.”Deut. 18:15

, (1400 B.C.)“The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall harken.”Isa. 7: 14

, (800 B.C.)”Behold a ‘virgin’ shall conceive and bear a son.” I know that many Bibles how say that a “young woman” will have a child. King Ahaz knew that many young women had children, so this would not be much of a sign. Now a virgin having a child would definitely be a sign.

9:6 . “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”11:1 , He was root from the stem of Jesse.

Mic 5:2

. “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose going forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” No doubt about it, Jesus was to be born in Bethlehem. Micah named this place where Christ was to be born 700 years before He was born there. Now the king, Caesar Augustus, thought he came up with this great idea to get more money from the people, called “taxation.” Most of us has heard that term before. Caesar Augustus said that all would have to be registered (taxed). They would have to register in their own city or hometown. This would be the city of their lineage. I wonder where Augustus got that idea at that particular time?? That would be the time that Mary and Joseph, who were in the region of Galilee, in a little town called Nazareth. Mary should be about eight plus months pregnant now. Both Mary and Joseph were of the lineage of David. And the City of David was Bethlehem. While Caesar Augustus thought that he was in command, really God was just using him as a tool to fulfill prophecy of Mic. 5:2.Zech. 10:11

, “. . and the scepter of Egypt shall depart.” .Hos. 11:1

, (800 B.C.) “. . .and called my son out of Egypt.” He was to be called out of Egypt.Jer. 31: 15

, (700 B.C.) There was to be weeping in Ramah.
