Why Does The Natural Man Not Understand The Scriptures? Part 2
At the end of part 1 it was stated that, God has blinded all but the elect. The reference was found in Romans 11.
To give more Scriptures to further enlighten this is subject can be found in 1 Cor. 2:14-15. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.”
1 Cor. 1:18-19. “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but unto us who are saved it is the power of God. For it written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” (Isa. 29:14). This concerns worldly knowledge and wisdom which is that of the natural man.
In Matt. 13: 10-18 the disciples asked Jesus why He spoke in parables? Jesus said that it was not given to them to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven and was to fulfill Isaiah’s prophecy of 6: 9-10. Where they would hear and see, but not understand.
It is God’s choice that the ones that understand are the ones that He wants to understand. Matt. 13: 11-14. “It is given unto you (Christians) to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. . . because they seeing, see not; and hearing, they hear not neither do they understand.” Also more Scriptures concerning this topic can be read at Romans 11: 7-8; 1 Cor. 1:18-27, 2:14, 3:19; 2 Cor. 3:14, 4:14; and Eph. 4:17-18. Of course this is not all inclusive list, only examples.
I believe that there are more than sufficient Scriptures to back up why the natural man does not understand the full meaning of God’s word.
In a literature course I asked my professor why I had trouble seeing the deeper meaning of Odyssey? Answer, because I was not Homer. Very true, because I was not the author then I was unable to see through his eyes or interpret with his mind. This also applies with the Scriptures, I will not be able to interpret with my mind or my eyes the deeper meanings of the Scriptures. But since I, being saved, have the Holy Spirit indwelling in me and He (being the third part of God Himself) interprets the Scriptures to me.
In James 1:5 it says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God. . .” And in 1 Cor. 12:8 “For to one is given, by the Spirit, the word of wisdom; to another, the word of knowledge by the same Spirit.” The Bible says seek to find and ask to receive. Just like trying to become more knowledgeable about any subject one has to look in the right place to find it. God has all the answers, but “few there be that find it”.
